Aberystwyth University - John Powell.  

Under the theme of Student Engagement, initiatives include:

• Review of mentoring systems;
• Review of learning skill support;
• Review of personal tutoring system. 

Under the theme of Communities of Practice, initiatives include:

• 'Second Bite of the Cherry' takes place in week 4 of semester 1 and offers a second chance to create a personal lifestyle based on consultations with advisors;
• Re-fresher event - week 2 of semester 2. A mini orientation and recruitment fair;
• Resident Tutors in halls. The old system of (disciplinary) Wardens has been replaced by a support system of Resident Tutors who are there to facilitate transitions, prompt health checks on academic and social progress. We are exploring more interventionist approaches to skills acquisition and employability.
