Under the theme of Student Engagement, initiatives include:

 

  • Pre-Fresher Workshops 
  • Centralised Induction 
  •  Peer Supporters - guides for new students 
  • Residential Peer Supporters-supporting live in students 
  • Winter social event in the Student Guild 
  • Summer support scheme 2008 to monitor and track re-submission of assignments over summer period

 

Under the theme of Communities of Practice , initiatives include:

 

  • Initial Assesssments for Literacy and Numeracy 
  •   Integration of information talks from Student Support Services into course based inductions 
  • Appointment of Lecturers in Study Skills for specific curriculum areas 
  • Tracking and monitoring of attendance and assignent submissions through designted Student Liaison Officer in the area of Science and Technology 
  • Increase in specialist counselling provision 
  •  Subject tutorials in the area of Business Studies 
  • Participation in the Effective Life Long Learning Project-Bristol 
  • Use of student focus groups for course audits

 

Under the theme of Innovation in First Year Assessment, initiatives include:

 

  • Evaluation of the use of Turnitin to reduce plagiarism
  • Individual goal setting study skills tutorials
  • Written feed forward for Nursing students
  • Peer assessment and peer feedback to facilitate learning
  • Developing Peer and Self Reflection
  • Using blogs and wikis to share developmental learning on Screen Studies award.  

 

Under the theme of Enabling Employability Through the First Year Curriculum, initiatives include: 

 

  • History students experiencing the workplace
  • Engineering induction - Elastic Olympics
  • 'This will be my life' collaboration with Careers Service to focus on career choice
  • Community Blog for Design Communication students.
